United Voice wins support from RSL on penalty rates

Hospitality union United Voice has chalked up a major win in the fight for weekend rates, and has vowed to keep fighting for fairness for workers in community and sporting clubs!

A major clubs employer has just rejected Clubs Australia’s attempts to cut weekend and public holiday penalty rates for people working in clubs!

The RSL and Services Clubs Association of Queensland represents the majority of clubs in Queensland. They have just publicly stated that they oppose Clubs Australia’s moves to abolish the Clubs Award and cut weekend rates.

This breakaway move by RSL and Services Clubs Association of Queensland shows disunity in the clubs movement over Clubs Australia’s brazen attempt to attack on workers’ wages.

United Voice has called on all other clubs organisations to now follow their lead.

The Union held a rally in front of the Redlands Sporting Club at the weekend, vowing not to back down despite threats of legal action from Clubs Australia.

To assist, activists have been asked to become “Weekend Warriors”. Those who sign up online at weekendwarrior.org.au will receive a kit to go out to your local clubs and ask them to pledge support for their workers by agreeing to not cut penalty rates.
