Domestic and family violence is a workplace issue.

The Services Union in partnership with Basic Rights Queensland, invites union members and leaders to attend free training during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2020.

When Domestic and Family Violence Comes to Work

Union members are invited to attend a one-hour webinar about: 

  • Domestic and family violence (DFV), including coercive control 
  • DFV and the COVID-19 pandemic 
  • How DFV intersects with the workplace 
  • The impacts of DFV on employees and workplaces 
  • Recognising DFV in the workplace 
  • How to respond to those experiencing DFV in the workplace 
  • Confidentiality 
  • Existing workplace rights and entitlements, such as domestic and family violence leave 
  • How to refer to specialist DFV support services

Additionally, The Services Union in partnership with Basic Rights Queensland and the Queensland Council of Unions, invites union secretaries, officials and leaders to attend a half-day face-to-face training event which extends the content of the webinar to include:

  • Understanding and implementing existing rights, entitlements, policies and guidelines
  • Identifying and mitigating risks and implementing appropriate safety planning
  • Responding to employees who use violence
  • Approaches to supporting bystander responses
  • Boundaries and emotional resilience: supporting managers and responders
  • Confidentiality, privacy and organisational record-keeping
