WIN – Regional centres welcome ban on 100% FIFO

Major mining companies operating in Queensland have been banned from flying in 100 per cent of their workforce.

The Palaszczuk Labor Government introduced laws in the late August sitting of Parliament banning FIFO, meeting an election commitment to review the practice.

Unions and regional communities have been fighting for a ban on 100 per cent FIFO for many years, making submissions to Parliamentary inquiries and holding actions and rallies.

When there is a ready and available workforce in close proximity to a project, 100% FIFO eventually leads to the destruction of communities that have grown up around and supported mining activities.

Large resource projects with at least 100 workers will be affected by the new laws, which were promised by Labor before the last election.
