10-day Caltex Strike a success for NUW members

The following statement was released by the National Union of Workers following the successful resolution of the Lytton Caltex Dispute

Caltex members, who had taken indefinite industrial action at the company’s lubricants facility in Lytton, Queensland, have won a deal that will see changes to their salary including a reduction in hours worked, annual wage increases and increased penalties.

Members stood united over the 10-day strike, with the Queensland Council of Unions supporting the action and many unions including the AMWU, the FSU, the NTEU, Queensland Nurses Union and United Voice showing solidarity and attending the picket line.

“This strike was a success, with members more united than ever and this win is a victory against corporate greed” said Industrial Officer Dario Mujkic.

“The community was appalled that workers were threatened with a 15% wage cut while Caltex posted historic profits and paid their CEO $14 million. The support from other unions, politicians and well-wishers in the community was significant”.

The Caltex strike ends as the company is accused of wage theft in their service station retail operations.

Through standing united, NUW members have secured an outcome that ensures the wages paid for each hour worked are largely maintained.
