Union work saves legal centres from funding axe

The Services Union members working in Community Legal Centres (CLCs) across Queensland celebrated a huge campaign win late last month!

After months of campaigning against an impending 30 per cent axe to their funding, the Federal Government announced on 24 April that the planned cuts will not go ahead.

This win came about through the tenacity of members working in CLCs and the extra support their union colleagues from across all industries gave them.

Axing funding to CLCs would be not only detrimental to our communities but also to our economy!

Campaign activities included:

  • writing letters to federal MPs and prominent Australians;
  • Participated in a Solidarity Photo Action #fundequaljustice;
  • Investing in a billboard right outside federal Attorney-General George Brandis’s Brisbane office; and
  • Local political lobbying.
