Queensland Council of Unions Statement regarding Christchurch terror attack

On behalf of all 26 affiliate unions, the Queensland Council of Unions extends its deepest sympathy and sorrow to all who have suffered because of the Christchurch terror attack.

We stand in solidarity with the victims, their families and the New Zealand community who have extended such love in the aftermath.

We recognise the grief, fear and anger of Muslim communities in Brisbane and around the world who are so tired of the scapegoating and scare-mongering that has validated and amplified ideologies of hate at their expense.

Queensland Unions will always welcome new Queenslanders. We will always work to create safe and welcoming workplaces and communities. We will continue to hold any and all public leaders to account when they attack the vulnerable or demonise people based on their race, background or beliefs.
