Statement on land sales plan

The Queensland Council of Unions is not opposed to the plan announced today to sell surplus state land as these assets produce no income for the state, no jobs for Queenslanders and provide no services.

QCU General Secretary Ros McLennan said the income-producing assets unions campaigned to save were those that did provide services, income for the government and jobs for Queenslanders.

The LNP’s “Strong Choices” plan rejected by Queenslanders at the last election would have sold off Queensland’s income-generating public infrastructure assets off to big business that put profits before people, she said.

“As long as the monies from the sales goes back into infrastructure that generates jobs, the QCU is not opposed to the sale.”
